Mackey Airlines was bought out by Eastern Airlines in 1967. As part of the Eastern Airlines buyout, Col. Mackey had agreed not to operate another
airline for 5 years. "Colonel Joe" soon began this new company which was legally owned by Mrs. Mackey. Mackey International Airlines began operations on February 1, 1969 eventually creating a large route system that served the Bahamas and the British West Indies from the Florida gateways of Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. The airline merged with Charter Airlines in 1979 and discontinued all flights in 1981.
